Yoga Etiquette

Before you enter the studio (the hot room) we ask you
to please observe the following:

  • End conversations and respect the silence of the room.
  • Remove your shoes and leave them outside the room. DO NOT ALLOW SHOES TO OBSTRUCT HALLWAYS.
  • Turn electronic devices to silent.
  • Bags and purses are not permitted.
  • No gum
  • No Smells - Good or Bad. This includes perfume cologne body oils and body odors!
  • Showers available before class if needed.
  • Yoga mats and clothing will need regular cleaning and replacement.
  • Approved yoga mat required- you may not do any postures on the carpet.
  • Keep your water bottles and hand towels by your feet. Please limit excessive movements –you may be obstructing another student’s view in the mirror.
  • Wait and take the first water break after eagle posture as a group. From that point you may drink your water as needed. Please come to class well hydrated.
  • DO NOT USE WALLS OR MIRRORS TO BALANCE. If your teacher determines you need to modify balancing postures they will instruct you where to stand. Please keep sweaty paws off the walls-it ruins the paint and makes cleaning very difficult.
  • Beginners should set up toward the back of the room. One side of the room in each studio is usually hotter than the other. Any of our staff members will gladly recommend a place for you to set up.
  • Please reserve the front rows for the veterans and the teachers. If you are standing in the front you should be able to make it through class without resting or skipping postures. The intention is not to create a competitive environment. Yoga is a strict discipline and takes many years of practice. The newer students will only progress by watching the veterans for example.
  • Class time is 90 minutes. Be on time and plan to stay for the entire session. Once class starts leave the room only if absolutely necessary. If you know you will be leaving early inform your instructor before class. We may tell you where to stand or even when to leave to avoid disrupting our class. Please remember this is a discipline and it is distracting to the teacher and the other students when you come late, leave early, or come in and out when class is in session.
Observing these rules will insure the safety and comfort of all of our students. Enjoy your class!
